Star Trek Into Darkness is "Better...Than Everything"

               An international trailer for the highly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness is out.  Watch it here to make guesses about which baddie Benedict Cumberbatch is playing and witness the destruction he unleashes on a future earth.  According to the trailer, it seems that Cumberbatch's character is a top agent who feels wronged by Star Fleet commanders.  Either way, he seems rather high on the bad guy scale as he says, "I will walk over your cold corpses," and "I am better...at everything."  (Is there any creepier alliteration than "cold corpses," said in an intense British accent?)

            Perhaps Benedict Cumberbatch's character will make Star Trek Into Darkness better...at everything.  I am more excited for this movie than any other this year, that much is certainly true.

Star Trek Into Darkness: Another Reason to love J.J. Abrams

           I stumbled across this story yesterday, and had to share.  A New Yorker recently diagnosed with terminal cancer really wanted to see the new, shrouded in secret Star Trek Into Darkness 9 minute trailer.  He wasn't able to, but director J.J. Abrams did him one better.  Make that one hundred times better.  The rough cut copy of the film arrived at Dan Craft's home. (The film doesn't hit theaters until May.)  Craft and his wife were able to watch the film that no one knows anything about because of the J.J. Abrams no spoilers policy.  I appreciate not knowing everything about Star Trek, but I really appreciate Abrams sharing his story with a passionate film lover before he died.  When film nerds unite, it is sometimes a beautiful story.

Star Trek Into Darkness 

           Man did I love the newest version of Star Trek.  It was shiny and fresh with emotional gravitas to boot.  The long await sequel, helmed by the modern sci-fi storyteller J.J. Abrams, has just released a new poster.  Featuring Benedict Cumberbatch of Sherlock fame, the poster clearly shows Cumberbatch's character among the devastation he assumably caused.   The name of the villain of Star Trek Into Darkness has yet to be revealed, though it's rumored to be Khan.  While some have been quick to point out the similar look of the poster to The Dark Knight Rises poster, I say, is it such a bad thing to be compared to another great movie?  Look for more teasers and trailers in the months to come.  You don't have to be a Trekkie (I'll admit, I am not at all) to appreciate the building anticipation for what is sure to be an excellent film.
